South Side in Bloom

July 27 / 10:00 am

We're back for our third year of offering a free tour of community gardens and neighborhood parks in the South Side of Springfield. Our tour features eight spots where residents have worked to create or renew underutilized spaces that enrich the life of the community. Tour attendees can eat freshly cooked vegetables, learn about urban gardening, or simply enjoy the beauty of garden spots in the middle of the city.
NEW THIS YEAR will be the opportunity to win prizes by visiting at least four of six selected spots. Get a check-off card at any location, then get it stamped at the places you visit. The cards have to be turned in at one of three locations: Auburn J. Tolliver Peace Garden, Covenant UMC Community Garden, or Gammon House. Anyone turning a card gets a tote bag filled with cool stuff and also is entered in a drawing to win a painting being created on the day of the tour. The artists will be at the three sites named above, so go by and see art in the making.
